Fragility and Resilience marks Ayesha Sultana’s first solo exhibition in Jaipur. Originally presented at the Ishara Art Foundation in Dubai in 2024, the show has been reimagined for Jaipur Centre for Art, where the works enter into a renewed dialogue with the building’s history.

The exhibition is an exploration of the delicate balance between the vulnerability and strength of our planet in the twenty-first century. Challenging the conventional binaries that divide the fragile from the resilient, Sultana suggests that fragility itself can embody resilience, holding within it a deep and transformative vulnerability. This thematic exploration is particularly pertinent in the contemporary world as social, ecological, and personal upheavals continually test the limits of sustainability.

Sultana’s wide-ranging practice is reflected through a variety of works, including her first-ever hand-blown glass sculptures, oil paintings, watercolours on Japanese silk tissue, works on clay-coated paper, brass and aluminium site-interventions, and photographic explorations.

The exhibition is designed to guide viewers through a journey of quiet reflection. Visitors can engage with the material and thematic nuances of each work while experiencing the show as a cohesive whole.

Fragility and Resilience is organised in collaboration with the Ishara Art Foundation and supported by Experimenter. Select artworks in this exhibition have been loaned from the collections of the Samdani Art Foundation, the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art, the Vazirani Private Collection, the collection of Akshay Chudasama and the collection of Prateek and Priyanka Raja.
